It’s been almost three weeks since we dropped her off. That’s what it felt like too, like a momma bird watching her fledgling drop from the nest for the first time. We worried whether she was going to remember to eat, to clean her room, do her laundry…. brush her teeth… Luckily, it didn’t take long for our worries to ease. She called everyday (well, for the first three days), letting us know how much fun she’s having. She sounded, hyper excited, she sounded like she was in her world. She didn’t once complain about boring teachers or disruptive classmates. She wasn’t mad about some trivial inanities from people she doesn’t even know. She talked on and on about the work she’d doing, the sculpture she’s making… she is so happy, I’m glad she got this chance this summer.

She called last Thursday night, to say her card got denied at Starbucks. What the!!! Well, luckily her aunt was picking her up to go on a short trip with them for the long weekend, because it sure was too late to go to the bank to deposit more money in her account. We had a long talk about budgeting her money and making it last. She just spent her four weeks allowance in two weeks. Oh well, I’m sure I’m not the first parent to get that call, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
Today, we’re driving up to see her, maybe take her out to dinner. I could have mailed her portfolio, that she said she needed to apply for the fall course, but we’ve missed her and just wanted to peek in on her. Her sisters are excited and she was too, when I told her we were coming.

‘She wasn’t mad about some trivial inanities from people she doesn’t even know. ‘ – hahaha! How well you know how these young misses could otherwise be. La lang… na-amuse lang ako.
You both are doing what you do best, and what like doing best… her art, and your motherhood… great times of your lives.
Funny about the Starbucks card. I hope she is having a good time. I think I know where she went.
Oh, I feel your pain. My youngest is 15 and I’m already dreading her graduating high school and leaving home.
