Lincoln and the 2012 Elections Aftermath

Location, Location, Location! LOL!

In the aftermath of the presidential election, tonight seems pretty boring. Like most Americans and many people worldwide, I stayed up late last night holding my breath and waiting for voting results to come in. I went through the ups and downs as the numbers and graphs did the same then joined the collective sigh of relief when President Obama was finally declared the victor of the race.

How Easy is it to Vote More Than Once?

This morning, this photo caught my attention on facebook:

The status update says:

“I have voted once in Beaufort, once in Henderson, twice in Emerald Isle and will vote in my precinct in PKS, I will do whatever it takes to save our country from the world envisioned by Mitt and his fear mongering followers. I do not want my granddaughter to have to re-fight the battles won by women 40 years ago or to make less than my grandson for performing the same work he does. This election is not about taxing the wealthy. It is about the American spirit and caring for our fellow man. Let’s continue to move forward, not slip in the dark past.”

I did a quick Google search about this claim and could only find blog articles, nothing from the main or traditional media, so I cannot say for sure if this is real or fake as many claim it to be. Nowadays, I try to remain skeptical about these type of assertions until I see enough credible proof.

Early Voting in Durham

I came out of the polling place and said, “Yeay Romney!” My daughter said, “WTH??” LOL!

Today is the last day of early voting in Durham and we took advantage of the convenience and went as a family. Every year, we have been voting as a family since the girls were babies. Now, the two older ones are old enough to vote and when we’re together as today, I always enjoy going en force.

So this morning, we got up early. Unusual for a Saturday. We made it to the polling place a half hour after they opened and managed to walk right in, without any lines or trouble parking. I liked it! I don’t know why we hadn’t voted early before. It is so much more convenient!

Even though there is no school on election day, Tuesday, I would have had to leave work early to go vote, and I am sure there would have been the usual crowd and long lines. This was so much better!

As for my other daughter who is away at school, she told me last week that she already sent in her absentee ballot. I asked he why she didn’t just vote in California? She could have registered there and voted there. But she explained that California is already a shoe-in for Obama and North Carolina is still a swing state. So she sent her vote where it would count more. Smart girl! I didn’t even think of it  that way.

If you hadn’t voted already, make sure to go vote on election day, Tuesday! It doesn’t matter who you’re rooting for, if you’re able, GO VOTE!

I Decided on Four More Years!

Politics is a dirty business no matter which side you’re on and I have never been political. I avoid discussing politics and religion because I know it’s a moot point. But this year, I am feeling a change coming on. This election year, it’s very hard for me to stay in the middle. I know it has a lot to do with where I am in my own personal life and experiences, but I am having difficulties understanding the opposing (Republican) views.
